Red Bull Racing expressed again after the Grand Prix qualifying that it expects Mercedes to do something illegal with the rear wing. It meets with a lot of resistance from
Toto Wolff who tries to ignore the issue as much as possible.
The Austrian racing team expressed distrust towards its rival for the first time last week in Brazil. Although
Lewis Hamilton had a different combustion engine in his car, Mercedes suddenly had a very large lead over Red Bull. The team of
Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez claimed to have evidence that the Mercedes rear wing was not in line with the rules.
"The debates that are being kicked off or launched I cannot follow anymore," Wolff says in conversation with
The Race.
"I’ve taken the decision for myself and the team that we should try to ignore it. We struggle to keep up with commenting on the rumours that are being made from that side." Battle between Red Bull and Mercedes in Qatar
He went on to compliment Red Bull. "The track here is less power sensitive and they’ve just done a good job. Their straightline speed with a big wing is identical to ours. I’m happy that they are happy."
