Mercedes experienced tough winter testing this season, meaning the team were to fear a mediocre start to the racing year. Despite this, the German racing stable managed to secure third place with
Lewis Hamilton, while
George Russell finished fourth. Lawrence Barretto thought it was a good performance.
While Mercedes have been the top team in
Formula 1 in recent years, this season they appear to be struggling to keep up with
Red Bull Racing and
Ferrari. In Bahrain, Mercedes did not manage to stay close to its two competitors, so a podium finish seemed out of reach.
That situation changed, however, when first
Max Verstappen had to retire, and moments later it was
Sergio Perez who had a DNF It caused the entire field to move up and Hamilton to drive in third place.
Mercedes gets compliment for performance
"It’s a long way to go, and Mercedes have so much to do to fight for pole and victory," Barretto begins on
the official website of Formula 1.
"But to be in contention, you need to score well on your bad days, and the Silver Arrows did just that."
