Miami city officials have voted to enter formal negations to host an F1 race in the coming years. This will help Liberty Media expand F1 in America, achieving one of their biggest goals. The vote was held yesterday.
F1 and the city officials can now start to properly plan the event. It’s looking likely that it will be staged in October and they are hoping for a 10-year deal.
It will be the 4th Grand Prix in North America, with the traditional Canadian Grand Prix and Mexican Grand Prix already in place, alongside the Grand Prix in Texas.
“Formula 1 in Miami represents a fantastic opportunity to bring the greatest racing spectacle on the planet to one of the worlds most iconic cities. We’re delighted a journey is underway,” said Sean Bratches, Formula One’s director of commercial operations.

Lewis Hamilton seemed positive about an event being played out in the American city. But he admitted things could already be improved.
“Miami is a super-cool place and I was very excited to hear about it, but when I saw the layout, I was like ‘meh’. It could be a lot more fun.”
The track is likely to run over a bridge. Nothing has been set in stone yet, so let's give Lewis Hamilton and the rest of the drivers the chance to design the track!
