The iconic circuit could be changed in the future due to land reclamation.
The Monaco Grand Prix circuit layout could be set to change in the future. The grand prix is synonymous with the sport and has been on the calendar since 1955 and has seen very little change since the 1970s with alterations made to the circuit in the pursuit of safety.
However, according to Forbes F1 business journalist Christian Sylt, the legendary track could be changed due to a land reclamation project that is ongoing near the entrance to the tunnel.
Prince Albert of Monaco confirmed that talks had taken place, however, there had not been any serious considerations drawn up yet.
The new land is located just before the F1 circuit's tunnel entrance.
"I am not saying that it will happen necessarily, but at some point, we are going to put our minds together and say, how can we not only improve this but how can we make it a little more exciting by maybe changing the course slightly?"
"We haven't gone beyond this simple statement of an idea, something that is in the back of our minds," he added.
Many fans believe that Monaco is synonymous with Formula One and that it could never be taken away from the calendar. Prince Albert agreed that the streets of Monaco should remain an F1 destination.
"It is such a part of the history of the sport that I can't envisage an F1 season without the Monaco grand prix."
