Sergio Perez managed to beat
Max Verstappen in qualifying for the second time this season this weekend.
Carlos Sainz once again gave up to
Charles Leclerc, leaving the Monegasque with seven wins to his name.
Prior to qualifying, it already seemed that
Ferrari and
Red Bull Racing would fight together for pole position and that turned out to be the case. Leclerc grabbed pole position, outperforming Sainz. Verstappen did not manage to cross Perez and will start the race behind the Mexican.
Lewis Hamilton and
George Russell were still tied before the weekend in Monaco, but after qualifying the second Briton is one point ahead of his teammate.
Lando Norris managed to further widen his lead over
Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso convincingly outperformed
Esteban Ocon, although the Spaniard drove into the wall at the end of qualifying.
Valtteri Bottas followed Leclerc's example and also took his seventh win over his teammate. In doing so, the Finn convincingly outperformed Guanyu Zhou. Finally,
Kevin Magnussen was better than Mick Schumacher for the fifth time.
