While Monza is listed on the 2020 Formula 1 season's calendar, the contract still needs to be signed. According to the president of the Italian automobile club Aci, the signing is "very close" and he expects to do a deal in the build-up to the Italian Grand Prix.
The confirmation of a deal would 100% cement a 22 race season. The Dutch Grand Prix and a race in Vietnam have been added to the schedule while only Hockenheim misses out.
Angelo Sticchi Damiani, reports that the contract to host Formula 1 at the Monza circuit will last for five years. That covers the 2022 version of the Italian Grand Prix which would mark the 100th anniversary of Monza.
“I hope to sign shortly, but there is still some detail to be finalised. But we have the certainty, or we almost have it, that we can sign a contract for five years. Having fixed this part, starting next week we will start planning the modernisation of the circuit in view of the 100th anniversary of Monza (in 2022)," the Italian is quoted by Sportsmole.
