Earlier it was announced that
Max Verstappen is ready for his fourth gearbox of the year. The same goes for
Charles Leclerc, who will also receive a new gearbox from
Ferrari in Hungary. Both drivers are at their limit, but for now the change should not have any consequences as there is a normal rotation within the pool. For Leclerc, however, it is not the only part of his gearbox that is at - or even over - the limit.
Leclerc had to start the
Canadian Grand Prix from the last row of the grid and is already over the limit in terms of engine parts. After the
Hungarian Grand Prix, however, he is at the limit with two more parts: he changes to his fourth gearbox of the year, but also gets a new exhaust from
Ferrari. That's already his seventh of the season, putting him at the limit with that part too.
Leclerc at the limit with multiple parts
It is possible that Leclerc will be penalised later in the year, but for now the changes to new parts are not having a major effect. It is unlikely that all the other parts in the pool have already been written off, and until that happens we can simply rotate.
The same applies to
Max Verstappen, who has used significantly fewer parts than his rival so far. While both Leclerc and
Carlos Sainz have used four engines, Verstappen and teammate
Sergio Perez have used two. The
Red Bull Racing drivers also only have four exhausts in rotation, compared to Leclerc's seven.
