After an interview given by Helmut Marko, Adrian Newey's wife, Amanda Newey challenged top advisor Helmut Marko's words on social media.
Entering the Japanese Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda will sit in the other RB21 alongside Max Verstappen, instead of Liam Lawson. The New Zealander had a difficult start to the season with Red Bull Racing, and just after two rounds, the switch was announced.
Talking to Kronen Zeitung ahead of the weekend in Suzuka, top advisor Helmut Marko explained that Adrian Newey was a reason why the Japanese driver was not promoted earlier. According to him, Tsunoda's incident at the 2022 British Grand Prix was a 'red flag' for the master designer. "But now Newey is gone and Yuki has worked hard on himself," he added.
Newey's wife, Amanda Newey has now responded to the Austrian's words after the interview was released. To a post on X about the topic, she responded: "That doesn't make sense. He was on a garden leave."
After top designer announced he will leave Red Bull Racing, he was on a gardening leave period before joining Aston Martin. The Briton could begin working at his next destination on 3 March this year.
