Pirelli's
Mario Isola has said that there won't be any more compounds added in the 2019-season, after adding two new types of tyres this season, making the total of dry compounds seven instead of five like last year.
The two new compounds were received with mixed feelings, as the harder compounds were rarely used last season, and the Italian manufacturer added a superhard compound to the list in 2018. The other new compound, the hypersoft, has been a success so far.
"The superhard is more of a back-up," Isola told Racefans.net.
"We probably won't see it in action this year, but it's good to have it as an option just in case."
The Italian thinks that for now, there are more than enough compounds to choose from, and there is no need to add any more.
"Of course we'll run some tests, and maybe this season we'll see that the difference between some compounds is too big or too small."
"We'll adjust a compound in that case, but we won't add any more - that number will stay the same."
