Esteban Ocon is still not guaranteed a seat at Renault next year despite some reports earlier this week saying that a deal is all but completed.
Force India driver Esteban Ocon has been linked with a move to Renault - as his contracted side, Mercedes believe that the French manufacturer would be the best place for Ocon to develop temporarily.
It turns out current Renault driver Carlos Sainz Jr. is not yet out of the running to keep his seat at Renault for the 2019 season.
Sainz Jr. is on loan from Red Bull and the uncertainty surrounding Daniel Ricciardo's future at Red Bull looks like as if it's almost finally certain.
What we do know for sure is that Nico Hulkenberg will be staying with Renault for next season.
Hulkenberg enjoyed his best result with the French works team at the weekend, where he finished in fifth place.
"I am still pleased with my decision to join Renault," Hulkenberg told Auto Hebdo.
"Of course, it will still take time. Will it be one, two, three years? We will see.
"I doubt the 2019 rule changes will change the hierarchy a lot. But we cannot afford to miss the big 'reset of 2021'."
The identity of his team mate is more uncertain.
Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul has refused to rule out Sainz just yet, even though there is speculation that Abiteboul wants a Frenchman behind the wheel.
"We want to give Carlos a good car and we want him to stay at Renault," Abiteboul said to Spanish radio ststion Cadena Cope.
"There is no reason to be worried."
