The rumours that the
Monaco Grand Prix weekend will be shortened to three days from 2022 prove true. Formula One boss
Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the race weekend will start on Friday from next year, rather than Thursday.
Formula 1 ends traditional four-day weekend in Monaco
This means the end of a long-standing tradition. Historically, the weekend in Monte Carlo always started on Thursday. Originally because of a public holiday, but later the day off was mainly filled with markets and fancy parties.
"Monaco will become a three-day event with immediate effect," Domenicali said in conversation with
CNN. "That means on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, instead of Thursday followed by a break and the rest of the weekend." As expected, the 2022 calendar will continue to consist of 23 races. Domenicali also confirmed that
Formula 1 will make a return to France.
