SportPesa Racing Point boss Otmar Szafnauer says “every point is hugely important” for the team going into Austin as they look to move into the top five in the constructors championship.
Racing Point have hit a good run of form since returning from the summer break after a troublesome first half of the season which saw only a few top 10 finishes.

Sergio Perez has been the star man finishing in the top eight at every race, other than a retirement in Singapore, since Belgium, helping them sit only nine points behind fifth placed Renault in the standings.

"We're at that point in the season where every point is hugely important,” Szafnauer said.

“We're in the thick of this midfield battle and the six points we scored in Mexico have helped us close the gap on fifth place to just nine points.

“The car was strong in Mexico and we will work hard to ensure similar pace in Austin this weekend."
Looking ahead to the weekend in Austin Perez, after finishing best of the rest in Mexico, says it is almost like a “second home race” with Mexican fans going along.
"Austin has always felt like a second home race for me because of the number of Mexican fans who come along,” he said.

“It feels strange to be going there after Mexico because it's usually the other way around.

“I enjoy having these two races next to each other – they are both highlights of the year for me and very enjoyable. I always notice the Mexican flags in the grandstands and it gives you a boost."
