For Sergio Perez, it is a dream: winning his home race in Mexico. Never before has the teammate of Max Verstappen at Red Bull had such an opportunity to indeed leave the circuit Sunday with the most important trophy. Only the big question is whether Perez can actually win in front of his home crowd?

Tricky message

Perez is aware that a bad message may be called from the pit wall on Sunday. It is not inconceivable that the Mexican will lead the race, with championship leader Verstappen in his wake. No doubt Perez will then be instructed to let his teammate lead. " It's complicated," Perez said to Autosport.com when asked about the orders that could get in the way of a possible victory.

Perez continued: “We should see what circumstances we have in the race. At the end of the day, we are drivers working as a team and the main focus is on the team. It's the big picture. We will have to look at the circumstances. And that’s the beauty of racing: that decisions are made in the moment, in seconds, even though they are very complicated issues.”

Filling with pride

Yet, when asked about it, Perez admits a win on his home soil would be very special. "I would be proud to be able to achieve one of my dreams since my childhood [and win]. This is a real opportunity that depends on me and my team, whereas other years it depended on other factors. So there is a very real chance, and my motivation is 100%.”
