Force India driver Sergio Perez says that he rejected the chance to join Renault next season.
Daniel Ricciardo has recently been announced as the man who we driving alongside Nico Hulkenberg for the French manufacturer next season, but Force India driver Sergio Perez says he rejected the chance to join Renault.
"When you have no chance at Ferrari or Mercedes, I think Force India is a very interesting option," Perez told OneStopStrategy.com.
Perez was part of the move that saved Force India, as Lawrence Stroll and his consortium rescued the British-based team from administration.
Also, Perez was part of the reason that Force India went into administration - for no fault of his own - as the side had owed him a lot of wages that they were unable to pay.
Now, things have changed and it is believed that the talented Mexican driver's contract extension with Force India is set to be announced in the coming days - perhaps even before the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.
"I do not regret not signing with Renault, because in the last two years I was the best of the rest," Perez claimed. "As a team, we were in front of Renault in the constructors' championship."
Perez was then quizzed about his new contract:
"It's a matter of days or weeks," Perez revealed. "The contract is there, it's just the position of the team that must be clarified. The team is coming from a complex situation, but fortunately the 400 workers are all safe with a good investment that guarentees stability."
