Max Verstappen was clearly happy after his dominant victory at the
Styrian Grand Prix. Upon reaching the finish line, the Dutchman hit the brakes to greet his team at the pit lane.
It seems dangerous to suddenly drive slowly on the straight, especially when the race is still on. Fortunately, the next driver to Verstappen was more than 35 seconds away, namely
Lewis Hamilton.
Safety is important in F1
It was an action we hadn't seen from Verstappen before. Apparently, race director
Michael Masi is not happy with the action. For now, he condones it, but next time it won't be tolerated. This can be read in the tweet below from F1 reporter, from De Telegraaf, Erik van Haren.
It's pretty logical that this can't happen too often for safety reasons. After all, the
Formula 1 cars cross the straight at enormous speeds.
