Kimi Raikkonen has suggested that the team orders issued during the German Grand Prix for him to let teammate
Sebastian Vettel through, were not clear. The Finn was on a two-stop strategy with Vettel on a one-stop, and subsequently, Raikkonen was asked politely to not get in the way.
Speaking in the post-race press conference. Raikkonen acknowledged that the team orders at
Ferrari but said that he felt it wasn't clear this time around.
“We have certain rules but it wasn’t clear,” he said.
“I had the speed and it was at a moment in the race that I needed to two-stop and it was what happened.
“I don’t know that it changed a lot in the end with what happened.
“It was a tricky race with the rain, pretty slippery in some places.
“I had a moment with one of the lappers, the Sauber, and then Valtteri (Bottas) got passed me.
“Happy to finish, a bit disappointed.
“But I’ll take it today and we’ll try next time again.”
Despite letting his teammate pass him, his efforts were for nothing as Vettel later crashed out of the grand prix and Mercedes were able to get past Raikkonen in the ensuing chaos of the pit stops and rain phase of the race.
