Kimi Raikkonen says that pole position is only "half the job done". The Finn took a sensational pole with a lap that sent the Tifosi into party mode after teammate Sebastian Vettel locked out the front row ahead of the team's home race.
Speaking to Sky F1's Paul Di Resta immediately after qualifying, Raikkonen admitted that whilst he was very happy to score a pole position in front of the Tifosi, he was still focused on the job ahead of him in the race with the championship contenders right behind him.
“Oh it is great for tomorrow but it is only half the job done,” he said.
“I think it couldn’t be a better place to be on pole position, our home grand prix in front of all the tifosi.
“Hopefully tomorrow everything goes smoothly and we up in front in the same position.
Raikkonen added the support from the rabid Italian fans was something that helped drive the
Ferrari team on in the fight against Mercedes tomorrow.
“They are always, it doesn’t matter where we go around the world but obviously here, our home grand prix, the great tifosi.
“Hopefully tomorrow is as good as today.”
Whether Raikkonen will be allowed to keep his position should the order stay the same going into the final laps of the race remains to be seen but he would be a very popular winner should he take to the top step in front of the Italian fans.
