Red Bull Racing advisor Dr Helmut Marko has revealed that the Austrian team are in agreement with both Ferrari and Mercedes about the budget cap which is set to take force in 2021, although the rest of the paddock isn't agreeing with the top three teams.
Although the plan hasn't officially been confirmed, teams are already getting their heads around a budget cap. The idea of it from Liberty Media's side is to even the playing field, as the top teams currently have a budget that's four times higher than smaller teams like Haas or Force India (until they got bought out, at least).
Ferrari and Mercedes have been particularly loud in their protests against the cap, with the former even threatening to leave the sport.
Marko told Auto Bild that there isn't an agreement yet about the cap, and the teams aren't close to agreeing either.
“We are still a long way from an agreement," the Austrian explained.
“Basically, we agree with Ferrari and Mercedes in terms of numbers, but the other teams are still very critical.
“We also need to discuss which departments of the racing team fall under the budget limit. Nothing is clear.
“Controlling it is very difficult to accomplish.
“How do you know which computer is working for the car company and which is working for Formula 1?”
