Yuki Tsunoda will soon have the opportunity to log in extra miles for Red Bull Racing outside of the race weekends. The Japanese driver, who
has been Max Verstappen's teammate since the Japanese Grand Prix, will undergo an extra test day at Silverstone and
additional simulator work in the week following
the
F1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Red Bull
schedules extra test for Tsunoda outside of F1 weekends
So far, Tsunoda is holding his own in the second Red
Bull next to Verstappen,
save for a few mistakes. Nevertheless, the Austrian
Formula 1 team has decided to provide him with some extra mileage with a
TPC (Testing of previous cars) in the RB19, the most successful F1 car in history, racking up 21 wins out of 22 races in 2023.
The test is to be held at Silverstone, near Red Bull Racing's headquarters in Milton Keynes. The driver will also do additional simulator work in
the factory.
Although the RB19 is by no means not identical to his current car,
the test offers Red Bull and Tsunoda a unique opportunity to become more familiar with a Red Bull car in a more relaxed
setting. It also gives the team the chance to
experiment more with set-up adjustments and other technical ideas they may want to develop.
Tsunoda's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend did not get off to a good start as the Japanese driver found the wall in the late moments of the FP2 session at Jedah.
Red
Bull's chied advisor, Helmut Marko,
conveyed his surprise since
Tsunoda was not on a push lap. However, the team had enough time to repair the
damage in Tsunoda's car to get it ready for action for FP3 and Qualifying on Saturday.
