For the second Sunday in a row a virtual Grand Prix was held. This time the race took place at digital
Silverstone, and again some familiar names competed, including Alex Albon,
George Russell and Callum Ilott.
The virtual GP at
Silverstone is the second race in a series of three Grands Prix. The team that ends up with the most points gets to donate the prize money to a charity of their choice. The digital races are intended to bring some extra positivity during the pandemic.
During the previous virtual GP it rained time penalties for exceeding track limits, but today the drivers seemed to stay within the guides. Despite this, only four drivers out of fourteen went unpunished, compared to just one last week.
The race started excitingly, with Callum Ilott in the lead. After the pitstops, Ilott was in the lead again, until he was passed by Albon on lap 17.
George Russell followed a lap later, and Ilott remained stuck in third place.
Showdown
The last few laps at Silverstone were largely characterised by a showdown between Albon and Russell, who became entangled in a battle for first place. In the final lap, Albon managed to overtake his fellow racer, but due to a three-second time penalty, he had to give up the spot he had won after the finish, thus making George Russell the winner of the second virtual Grand Prix.
This is the final result of the virtual GP at Silverstone:
