After an extremely disappointing debut for Renault, where
Daniel Ricciardo's race ended after mere seconds, the Aussie revealed he didn't intend to hit the patch of grass where he eventually lost his front wing.
Ricciardo made the controversial decision to quit
Red Bull in favour of
Renault, a team that is behind the Bulls on the grid.
The Aussie qualified in 12th and had a good start, but his race ended before it really started. He juked to the right to avoid the slow
Sergio Perez and hit a bump that took his front wing clean off. Halfway through the race, he had to retire.
"Really frustrating for it to be over so quickly," he told Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport.
"I didn't intend to go on the grass in the first place, I had a better start than Perez [who was directly in front of him]. I had a run on Perez, I went [onto the grass], and then the grass just sucked me into that bump. I couldn't see the bump."
Teammate
Nico Hülkenberg did bring home six points, however, with the German finishing in seventh place.
