Red Bull's
Daniel Ricciardo has said that the first sector of Albert Park is where the RB14 is lacking the most pace, as the Aussie will hope to somewhat redeem himself tomorrow in front of his home crowd after last year's and this weekend's disappointment.
Last year, Ricciardo wasn't able to finish the
Australian Grand Prix. This year, he gets dealt a three-place punishment by the FIA for not slowing down enough during a red flag situation, handicapping the man from Perth significantly.
"Unbelievable and inexplicable," Ricciardo said yesterday on the matter.
Today, Ricciardo managed to set the fifth quickest time in qualifying, which means he'll start from the eighth position.
"The first part went okay, we were up there competing," he analyzed.
"The further we went along though, the more pace we were missing compared to the others."
"Our balance didn't seem great either, but I didn't see how we could fix that problem easily."
"We were mainly losing time in the first sector."
Both Ricciardo and his teammate Max Verstappen will be starting on supersofts in tomorrow's Grand Prix, instead of the softer hypersoft compound. A tactical decision, according to the Honey Badger.
"I hope we'll profit from that decision later on in the race, but we'll have to see."
