The Albert Park circuit in Melbourne is being given a major overhaul. The changes should make the track faster and promote overtaking. Daniel Ricciardo has confidence in the renewed version of the circuit on which he will drive his home race in April.

After two years of absence due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Australian Grand Prix is back on the Formula One calendar in 2022. On the weekend of April 10, the drivers will return to Albert Park, where there is a lot of work going on at the moment.

Ricciardo happy with changes at Albert Park

In turn one, three, six and 14 the apex has been widened. Turn 11 has also been widened and repositioned. In addition, the chicane, which previously consisted of turns nine and 10, has been completely removed. This means that from turn six there is a longer stretch of full throttle.

A good development, says Ricciardo. He sees the new straight as a good opportunity to make use of the slipstream, which should make overtaking easier. "I think the changes will work out well. Braking will be fun as well," says the McLaren driver. In addition, a DRS zone will be added. All in all, the changes will make racing "a lot better," according to the Australian.
