Daniel Ricciardo is currently the third driver at Red Bull, backing up Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, after a tough spell at McLaren. The good-humoured Australian has admitted that the dream end to his Formula 1 career is a return to racing for the Red Bull team.
"This for me would be like the fairytale. Honestly, the fairytale ending [would be] to finish my career here if I could have it all my own way," Ricciardo told ESPN. " I'll probably have to work my way up a little bit but it's really nice to be back here," he added.
The 33-year-old driver also recently started presenting his own TV show. Together with Will Arnett, he presents 'The Grandstand with Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett'. "I know I can come back as a more complete version of myself," Ricciardo told during an interview on that broadcast.
According to ESPN, Ricciardo is open to racing at AlphaTauri in 2024 to get on Red Bull's radar. However, the Australian does not seem to be interested in racing for AlphaTauri as early as this season. This, in turn, could be good news for Nyck de Vries.
Where Ricciardo gets to race in 2024 remains to be seen. Lewis Hamilton is expected to continue his contract with Mercedes, while Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are both still under contract for next season with the Italian racing stable.
I'm a huge fan of Ricciardo. One of the most popular drivers in F1. Unfortunately I would rather prefer Lando to team up with max. I don't think Danny can outperform checo in the red bull.
Ricciardo want to end his career at RBR as a test driver or like a full driver?
It will be interesting to see how Perez performs till the end of the season. With Max dominating, any driver, who will be his team-mate, is bound to have a tough time.
But then he has him self to blame by leave red bull when he went to renult
Though I like Ric, He couldnt handle the pressure :) Right now, Max is the best driver on the grid. Even Perez is struggling to maintain his P2 positions.
Well, he left as he felt the team was undermining him for Max. Thats a point he has eluded to many times, now he is towards the end of his career i guess Daniel is not wanting to be world champion but rather in a team where he could get the odd podium .
@Bret, well I belive that this situation with Pérez is very like the Ferrari + Santander + Kimi narrative that played out and eventually lead to Ferrari have reason to end Kimi's contract. Sort with bad strategy decisions strange setup changes and weird comments from Marko and Horner, that seat is very much Daniel Rics . But yes will be intresting to see how badly this will end for Pérez at Redbull.
Maybe when he leaves he'll say he was the happiest he's been like Valtteri declared.
