With three minutes on the clock, Ricciardo finally pulled away from the Red Bull garage, followed by many claps and handshakes by the teams' mechanics who had been fixing up the car for hours.
"I was nervous but also excited to see whether I could make it," he said after the day's action.
"The mechanics really did an amazing job, they gave everything they had.
Red Bull will have multiple angles for tomorrow's race, where Ricciardo will start from sixth.
"Ferrari and Mercedes will go for a one-stop strategy tomorrow, but we'll have multiple strategies to consider."
The question is whether the Red Bulls will stay on the track, as the team has struggled massively with their reliability in the early stages of this season.
