After a two-year absence,
Formula 1 legend
Fernando Alonso is back in the premier class of motor sport in 2021. Nevertheless, his return has been harder than both the driver and the fans had hoped for. Former driver
Nico Rosberg points to the driver's age as part of the reason.
"The Alpine is a difficult car to drive and Alonso is not enjoying it", Rosberg said to
Sky Sports, for whom he is a regular pundit. The former Mercedes driver sees a similarity between Alonso's situation at Alpine and the difficulty
Michael Schumacher sometimes experienced at Mercedes after his return to the sport.
Finding the rhythm again
Rosberg continued: "It is a long road for Fernando. Sometimes he leaves flashes, like Michael Schumacher when I was his teammate at Mercedes. It was very difficult for him because of his age."
"The same thing is happening to Alonso", the 2016 world champion knows. "He has spent two years away and it will take a little time to be in full swing again."
