Although
Lewis Hamilton is well on track to match
Michael Schumacher's record when it comes to world titles, the Briton has no contract for 2021. According to the German RTL, this will also not happen any time soon.
It is no secret that Mercedes and
Lewis Hamilton would like to continue with each other. The combination of team and driver is one of the most successful in the history of
Formula 1, and the Briton is well on his way to securing his seventh title - and thus equal
Michael Schumacher's seemingly impossible record.
However, there is still no contract extension between the two parties. According to British media, there is already a contract ready for another three years and only a signature is required. The German
RTL contradicts that rumour. According to the medium, there will be no contract extension for the time being. Hamilton and Mercedes want to talk about a new collaboration after the current season and not when the focus should be purely on the Grands Prix. RTL therefore claims that there will be no contract extension before November.
Previous talks aborted
The British driver and Mercedes actually wanted to talk about a new agreement earlier this year. However, at that time the coronavirus threw a spanner in the works, cancelling the talks. Hamilton said he didn't want to talk about a multiple million salary, while many people in the world are becoming unemployed.
