Mercedes looks to be in contention for victory at the Mexican Grand Prix. The German formation has got the hang of it after a difficult start to the season and thus looks set to compete seriously with Red Bull Racing, according to George Russell.

During the start of the season, Mercedes suffered a lot of porpoising, losing a lot of time on the competition. Among other things, it made a fight with Red Bull and Ferrari almost impossible, while the situation was also dangerous for Lewis Hamilton and Russell.

Russell notices progress at Mercedes

The FIA then decided to intervene and make some clear agreements with the teams to avoid problems with porpoising in the future. It resulted in an advantage for Mercedes, which was able to make some big steps forward as a result.

"I think it almost has disappeared," Russell points in the FIA press conference to porpoising. "I think the couple of small rule changes that were implemented by the FIA definitely helped and the changes into next year by raising the floor edge, we're almost 100% sure that will take porpoising out of the equation totally."

"There was once a time that I forgot what a race car felt like not to have porpoising and now to be honest, I forgot what it does feel like to have porpoising. So I think that also goes to show the progress we as a team have made."

Just a reminder, Mercedes were boasting that they got rid of the porpoising, and that their problems were about bouncing on track bumps, BEFORE the rule changes masked as a technical directive. I’m quite saddened to see Russell, who was such a likable character, become so full of sh1t.

so a rule change to please Mercedes, nothing new. why car's who don't bounce need to raise the car, only to make them slower so Mercedes can catch up.

Toto will be so upset with Russell who has openly revealed something that the paddock knows since Canada; that FIA is helping Mercedes to get back on top. 2023 will be another Farce from the FIA- Mercedes and i have been mentioning this since CANADIAN practice. Dont be shocked if Mercedes-FIA has a rocketship in 2023 and gift it to Lewis for his HOLLOW 8th

The Mercs still seem to be porpoising, you can see it (and hear it) on the straights. They realize that the change in floor rules haven't made the sort of difference they thought it would.
