Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso have crossed paths numerous times on track this season. The pair often competes for the same position, and Sainz refers to this as a title fight.
Since Alonso has been at McLaren, he is yet to score a podium. Sainz said this doesn't reflect the ability of Alonso. However, he says it doesn't prevent damage to his reputation.
"Maybe he deserves better numbers and more titles. But I think he gets enough respect and admiration from all F1 drivers and team bosses," Sainz told motorsport.
Sainz then went on to compare his rival to Ayrton Senna. Respect isn't short between Alonso and the current Renault driver.
"Senna won only three titles but is still seen as the best ever. It is a pity that Alonso does not have to worry about that. I think I fought with him almost every game in F1, which is pretty crazy. You expect Fernando to fight for titles instead of midfield."
Interestingly enough, the two Spaniards could now be fighting for a place at Red Bull. Since Daniel Ricciardo announced he was leaving this afternoon, a space as opening up in a big three team. These two are amongst the favourites.
