Max Verstappen and
Lewis Hamilton were at a lonely height in the world championship last season, making it almost impossible for other drivers to keep up.
Carlos Sainz hopes this will change next year, he told
El Hormiguero.
In the Spanish talk show, the
Ferrari driver looks back on the
Formula 1 season. Sainz is reasonably satisfied with his performance, although he regrets that he could hardly compete for wins. During the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he managed to get the third podium spot, but his successes could be counted on one hand.
Sainz is hopeful about his chances
In 2022 this situation should change. The new regulations should make it easier for drivers to stay close to their predecessors, which should lead to more surprises in
Formula 1. Sainz hopes with all the developments at
Ferrari it will make it possible to compete with Hamilton and Verstappen. While he has great respect for both drivers, he is certainly not fearful.
"Although I don't doubt how good they are: even if I had a good day, it was insufficient to beat Hamilton and Verstappen last season. Hopefully, next season will be a lot more equal," Sainz stated in the interview. "After all, with the same car, you can beat them."
