Max Verstappen is having the most successful season of his
Formula 1 career. The Dutchman is more than 100 points ahead of
Charles Leclerc and could theoretically even grab the world title as early as Singapore. For
Carlos Sainz, it is clear what his former teammate is doing better than the competition.
Whereas
Ferrari seemed to have a car at the beginning of the season that would allow it to go for the world championship win, it dropped out of this fight early on in 2022. Speaking to
Formule1.nl, Sainz stated that this was partly due to Verstappen's performance during difficult race weekends.
"When he made mistakes - like in Spain, when he spun in the same place as me, and in Hungary - he recovered from those mistakes and won the race," Sainz noted. "Even on the days when he made a mistake, he still managed to win."
Sainz annoyed with dropouts
Sainz, who is fifth in the world championship, had to drop out in no fewer than four race weekends this year due to problems with his car. It caused the
Ferrari driver to lose many points for the standings. However, he is confident that Ferrari will come back stronger next season.
