It seems like an eternity ago since
Carlos Sainz and
Max Verstappen made their joint debut at Toro Rosso in 2015. With an upcoming move to
Ferrari, Sainz looks back on that time.
Hard against hard
The battle between Sainz and Verstappen seemed to be hard on the outside world. That may have been the case on the track, but outside, according to the Spaniard, this was certainly not the case.
"I have always had a good relationship with my teammates. Also with Max, although it may not always have seemed that way," says Sainz in the
Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We were both debutants and were fighting each other, but we both had a lot to learn." In the end Verstappen managed to make the most impression, resulting in a promotion to the main team. In the end there was no room for Sainz and he went via Renault to
McLaren. That diversion will at least ensure that he still has a seat with a top team.
Relationship with Norris
The past two seasons Sainz formed a duo with
Lando Norris, with whom he has also built up a good relationship.
"We had a good time, but also fought a lot with each other on the track." He says he will leave a lot of good memories of
McLaren when he leaves for
Ferrari.
"Nevertheless, I cannot say that I will miss it extremely. I can't keep looking back."
