The Formula One season has four more Grands Prix to go, but in conversation with Motorsport.com Carlos Sainz takes a cautious look back at the year. Ferrari looked set to fight for the world championship at the start of the season, only to end up many points short. However, his team does not blame Sainz.
Although Max Verstappen is having an excellent season, Ferrari certainly has something to reproach itself with in 2022. After all, the Italians' car is not much less than Red Bull Racing's, so the feeling among the racing stable is that there was more in it.
Panic within Ferrari therefore seemed to be high, but according to Sainz, there was little to worry about. The driver noticed that the team had learned something from the past few years, in which the team often acted from emotion. "Someone had to be blamed or fired after a mistake. This year there is much more unity," he says.
During the season, Ferrari made several strategic mistakes, leading to several calls for it to recruit reinforcements. However, Sainz did not see it go wrong based on strategy alone. "If I look at our mistakes, every time it was different mistakes," he said.
