The name and sponsor suggested otherwise in recent years, but
Alfa Romeo was, after all, a Swiss
Formula 1 team. With
Alfa Romeo now sidelined,
Valtteri Bottas and
Guanyu Zhou's team will once again be named Sauber, at least for the next two seasons. From 2026, Sauber will be
Audi's official factory team.
Sauber is now part of the furniture in
Formula 1. Since 1993, the team - once founded by Peter Sauber - has been active in the top class of motorsport. Sauber
F1 has always found it important to stay connected to its roots in Switzerland. Not surprisingly, the team's factory has long stood in Hinwil, which is located near Zurich.
No Switzerland for Sauber
For 30 years, Sauber has therefore been presenting the new car in Switzerland, but that will change in 2024. Alessandro Alunni Bravi, team principal of the F1 team, revealed at an awards show that the car for next season will be presented to the press in the UK. A break with the past, in other words.
Incidentally, it will first be revealed which new main sponsor has committed to Sauber. The Italian still does not want to say much about that. In any case, he has already said it is "a surprising name".
