Perez leads standings after all: in this the Mexican is the best

Sergio Perez had ambitions of becoming world champion this season, but in the middle of the summer break, the title is already out of the question. For the rest of the season, Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull Racing is focused on clinching second place in the championship. For that, it would be nice if Perez does not qualify from outside the top ten too often.

Five consecutive times this season Perez failed to reach Q3, forcing him to play catch-up each time during Sunday's Grand Prix. That is probably why the Mexican is the leader in the 'most drivers overtaken' ranking. In total, Perez managed to overtake a rival 59 times this season. That was much more then number two George Russell. Incidentally, Max Verstappen is third on the list.

Sergio Perez and the others return from their summer break at Zandvoort later this month. Last season, that was a race in which the Mexican started and finished fifth.

Someone should just slap a "L" sticker on the back of Perez's wing.....yes,there will be a fine, but it will be worth it.

Surprising to see Sargeant on the list

Interesting stats. Interesting to see Max in 3rd. Most people think he starts first and finishes first. He's had some races where he's had to work his way up. A stat where Checo can be happy to be leading by a mile.

By the same token if Checo was to improve on his qualifying skills he would only need to pass no more than 2-3 cars for him to consistently finish 2nd behind Max.

I agree, i had not expected to see Max in the top 3.
I expected midfielders to be up there, but i guess they're much more locked into their races than i thought.
Probably the procession effect, and them only gaining 1 or 2 places per race.
I would've thought to see the Ferrari drivers in there as well, but i guess they dropped more places than that they gained..

Not surprised to see Checo and Russell, but i'm still surprised that there's a 9 point gap between George and Max and then another 9 points down to Stroll and the rest.
I guess those catch-up races from Red Bull kinda count double, as they're going to pass cars after a pit stop to get back to the front again.
Russell in the Merc is similar, although the car isn't as fast, he has done more catch-up races this season it feels than any other driver, well, aside from Checo maybe.

Max's 27 broken down:

Saudi - Q15 P2 (13)
Miami - Q9 P1 (8)
Hungary - Q2 P1 (1)
Spa - Q6 P1 (5)

For a total of 27 places. The article above is a bit misleading, it's not the number of "overtakes", it's the number of places made up (as the graphic states).

Red Bull sabotage Perez just to hype their golden boy.

My contacts in the paddock tell me that Horner himself was spotted putting what appeared to be a banana in Checo's tailpipe just before quali. Also that the wing that Newey designed for Checo's RB19 was actually designed for a Gen 4 Skyline with body kit. The depths that RB will go to in order to undermine Checo truly knows no bounds. That said, I place far less credence in rumours that Max was spotted throwing turtle shells out of his car, bonking Checo on the head, thus causing him to spin in various quali sessions earlier this year.

I heard that it was Newey who developed Street Racer, when Horner was fully focused on Mario Kart.
I think Checo is also in on it, so that he can join Newey in 2024 at their Middle/South American Nissan Street Racer team.
Newey's plan is to become champion with doing only the street tracks.
The rest of the budget will be spent on weapons.
