Jos Verstappen and his co-driver Jasper Vermeulen had a major crash on Sunday during the Rally of Wallonia. Amateur footage of the huge shunt has been posted on social media, showing how fortunate the pair were.
Motorsport is dangerous, as became clear early Sunday morning. Jos Verstappen finished the first stage of the day over the car’s roof. He later said: "There was gravel and I think I went into the corner a bit too fast. At the end of the corner the car stepped out. Then we hit a pole, after which the car spun around and we landed upside down.
"The most important thing is that Jasper and I got out of the car safely. It was a big hit, but it goes to show that we’re in safe cars. I’m glad we came out of it well," the former Formula 1 driver concluded.

Huge shunt for Jos Verstappen

This weekend, Max Verstappen’s father drove with a different co-pilot, namely, Jasper Vermeulen. Verstappen Sr's regular navigator broke his ankle last week. It is unknown when Renaud Jamoul will be able to return.

In any case, there’s plenty of work to be done first to patch up Verstappen’s Skoda. Photos already showed that the car was heavily damaged. A video posted on the Iamjoaopereira account shows that the impact was indeed enormous. The cause of the crash can also be seen. Watch the footage below!
