Silly Season: Many more candidates for the last five Formula 1 seats in 2021!

With Williams' second announcement and confirmation that Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi will remain with Alfa Romeo, there are only five seats left for 2021. Who will fill in the last seats for 2021?

Of all the seats that are still officially open, at Mercedes it is a formality. Lewis Hamilton has still not signed his contract, but in fact, everyone assumes that this will happen after the title is won. So, of the five seats, we can in principle remove one.

Most options are still available at Red Bull. For the Red Bull Racing team Max Verstappen has been confirmed and for AlphaTauri Pierre Gasly. Alexander Albon is now the driver at Red Bull, but due to his poor performance, Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez are also candidates to succeed him. That could cause a big shift.

At AlphaTauri it is almost certain that Daniil Kvyat will leave and for a long time, Yuki Tsunoda seemed to be the successor. The small Japanese driver is third in the Formula 2 championship and can therefore achieve his super license. However, is it good enough for Red Bull to promote him to Formula 1?

If Albon loses his seat, a choice has to be made between Albon and Tsunoda, so there is a chance that Albon will not only be relegated but will also lose out on getting any seat in F1. A more logical step would be to put him next to Gasly at AlphaTauri and give Tsunoda another year to take the F2 title.

The last two seats are still available for Haas, who put Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean through the exit door. Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher have frequently mentioned names, but Hulkenberg and Perez might also be added to this list. Take Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman and it is clear that Haas has no lack of choice.
