Haas experienced a dramatic season in Formula 1 in 2021. The American racing stable performed so poorly that it was still without points at the end of the calendar year. For Guenther Steiner, however, it came as no surprise.

The Haas team boss announced over a year ago that the team was going to focus mainly on 2022 when a number of rule changes took place. Moreover, with Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin it took a big risk, as both drivers were making their debut in Formula 1.

For Steiner it meant a tough year, in which he received a lot of criticism from the outside world. "It was also a transition year," Steiner tells honestly in an interview with Speedweek.com. "Everything went as we had predicted and we didn't encounter any big surprises, although of course it was no fun getting through last season. But sometimes you have to go through hard times to get better."

Expectations at Haas are high

This coming season, Schumacher and Mazepin will once again be in the cars of Haas. Expectations are that Haas can once again join the middle ranks of the driver field, although the test days in Barcelona and Bahrain will have to make clear whether this is actually the case.
