Lando Norris has mentioned over the course of the season that the McLaren car was not built for his liking. Still, the McLaren drivers still confidently led the standings entering qualifying. Andrea Stella has also responded to his drivers' words at the FIA press conference.

Stella on Norris' comments

The McLaren team principal Stella explained where does Norris' driving style not align with the car. "I think on Lando’s side, there’s especially a particular phase of driving the car that doesn’t make him entirely comfortable. I think we’ve achieved a very good understanding of what that is."

He continued: "It would be inappropriate to share the details, but let me say that even for this race, we’ve made some adjustments to the car – going back to some solutions that we think may improve the predictability of the car in relation to Lando’s driving input."

"So it’s actually an interesting weekend even from this point of view, and we look forward to seeing what we will learn," the Italian concluded.

Entering the weekend, only a single point separates Norris and Max Verstappen in the drivers' standings, after the Dutchman finished ahead of the McLaren driver at the Suzuka Circuit.
