Following the 2018 trend, Silverstone will include an additional DRS zone for the race on Sunday. The new zone will commence across the start/finish line and run through the opening two corners, Abbey and Farm.
Mark Webber heard the news and took to Twitter to boast about doing it in 2011 on his pole lap in qualifying as he claims he was the innovator.
Charlie Whiting remained excited but still doesn't know exactly what to expect in the race on Sunday.
"It's not a big zone, but the interesting thing is that they could use it open through Turn One if they wanted to. Once they activate it after Turn 18 - it only closes when they either brake or back off. They could potentially go through turns one and two with it open. Let's see," Whiting said in an interview on F1i.
Prior to the Austrian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton made out as if it was a waste of time adding in the extra DRS zones because drivers couldn't get close enough anyway. But anyhow, DRS in two flat-out corners sounds exciting!
What do you think of the DRS situation? Will it be an aid to overtaking around Silverstone at the weekend? Let us know in the comments!
