Max Verstappen was the one who triumphed in the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, but does he do the same in the F1 Power Rankings?
In the F1 Power Rankings, a jury looks at the performance of all drivers during a race weekend, excluding equipment. Subsequently, a top ten is composed in which all drivers are rated with a mark.
Verstappen may have won the race, it is Charles Leclerc who is rated slightly higher by the Formula1.com jury. The Monegasque qualified second and led thirty of the fifty laps, but lost the lead to the reigning world champion in the closing stages of the race.
On the other hand, Verstappen started the race from fourth place on the grid, which partly counts in the slightly lower score. "The Dutchman jumped in on the Safety Car on lap sixteen, as did Leclerc, and managed to stay in the pace delta under the later VSC and overtake Leclerc. In the end, he and the RB18 proved 'too hot to handle'," reads the accompanying text.
Other drivers who scored well were George Russell and Sergio Perez. While Russell did reasonably well to finish fifth, teammate Lewis Hamilton seemed lost with his struggling W13. He finished behind Perez, who was eliminated from a possible victory due to pure bad luck.
