With the appointment of Ireland's Dr Paul Rea as the
FIA's Head of Medical & Security, we have a new face to get used to in the logistical world of Formula One. Replacing Dr Pau Mota, Rea will not only deal with general health and safety within motorsport's premier class, he will also be responsible for overseeing COVID testing on the paddock.
With the coronavirus still rampant, Dr Rea has no easy task on his hands. Rea will be in the paddock as well as at a distance to ensure optimal compliance with Covid protocols. He explains, quoted by Irish
Radio Kerry:
“Covid testing is a big challenge there, and a lot of focus and responsibility over COVID will be one of my roles.”Dr Rea continued, explaining how his responsibilities take him both on the grid and to the
FIA office in Geneva:
"I’ll be working closely with Dr. Ian Roberts in a medical capacity in Geneva, as well as on the ground to ensure people in the paddock are tested and safe … I’ll be attending a few races, the vast majority of my work will be in F1.”Appointed by the FIA, Dr Rea will not only deal with Formula One but also with other racing categories to ensure proper health and safety there too. These classes include
Formula E, World Rally Championship and the Touring Car competition.
