Yuki Tsunoda's promotion to Red Bull has finally made his Formula 1 dream to challenge for podiums and race victories become a reality, but he could take greater honours yet.

At just 24 years old, Tsunoda is not far from becoming the most successful Japanese driver in F1 history - here's how!

Tsunoda road to milestone

In total, there have been 21 drivers from Japan who have competed in F1. Only three have made it to the podium: Aguri Suzuki at his home race in 1990, Takuma Sato in the United States in 2004, and Kamui Kobayashi at Suzuka in 2012.

Tsunoda now has an increased chance of joining that trio with the RB21 to drive, if he can tame it. But he could become the highest-scoring Japanese driver soon, with just 32 points needed to surpass Kobayashi's total of 125 points.

If Tsunoda does manage to take a race win, he would be the first ever from his country to achieve the feat, though Japan has had plenty of success through engine manufacturer Honda.

Tsunoda makes his Red Bull debut at the Japanese Grand Prix. Prior to the race weekend he expressed his desire to finish on the podium. He also mentioned that there is little pressure from the Red Bull management.
