Red Bull driver
Max Verstappen likes his chances on Suzuka this weekend based off of Red Bull performances in previous years, as the team tends to do well on high downforce circuits.
The 21-year-old finished in second place the past two editions of the
Japanese Grand Prix for Red Bull, and on the back of two consecutive Driver of the Day-worthy performances, he should be feeling good about this year's edition.
"We've done very well in Japan in the past few years, let's hope that we can do that again this year," Verstappen told GPupdate.
"You won't know until you're on the track with the car, but in general, our car is strong on this track, especially in the first sector.
"If we get our strategy right there's a good chance for us there."
With the form Verstappen is currently in, we certainly wouldn't put it past Verstappen to grab a win at Suzuka. His performances since his big mistake at Monaco in FP3 have been nothing short of sensational, outclassing his teammate Daniel Ricciardo time after time again.
Whether the Aussie is a bit checked out of Red Bull as he's leaving for Renault at the end of the season or whether Verstappen is just a class better than him, only they can know, but it certainly looks like the Dutchman is hitting his stride now.
