At the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Red Bull Racing rivals were given a unique opportunity. As Sergio Perez' s crashed RB19 was hoisted high into the air, they had ample opportunity to view the car's floor. Max Verstappen is not worried about possible copycat behaviour that will follow this, as the competition is busy doing so anyway, according to the Dutchman.
Photographers were quick to capture the Adrian Newey-designed floor on camera. Presumably the rivals will have found plenty of inspiration for their own design, but that does not worry Verstappen. "They are doing that anyway," he told GPblog and others.
"Of course it's not great, but on the other hand the other teams are not stupid either," the Dutchman continued. "Even if they were to copy it completely, that doesn't fit the philosophy of their car. You then still have to adjust a lot of things. That's the same for us: we can't put someone else's sidepod on, that's just not how the car works."
The fact that the Red Bull floor cannot simply be copied and then put under another Formula 1 car is not the only reason why Verstappen is not worried. "In the end, I don't think it matters very much. This is our floor now, but in a few races we will have a new floor again. That one will be completely different again. It won't matter that much," said the championship leader.
?end f1isback speaks about vercrashen like he's the best thing since sliced bread. OMG WAKE UP YOU WASTE OF WIND
Even if they would make an exact copy, they would be in the midfield. It is Max and Max only who can drive a car with this philosophy fast. The-Race just published another article explaining Perez trying to copy Max’s driving style to improve his performance, and fails. Like many before him. Max currently is the best driver on the grid. Anybody trying to claim otherwise is just in denial.
Absolutely he is a sublime driver in the fastest car Ozzie I think it's a perfect combination but wouldn't you like to see him up against a fast driver in the sister car who he can be measured against rather than his past teammates, other than Danny Ric, they all seem to be handpicked for their subservience and lack of race speed and consistency
Just hire Daniel since he already beat Max 2/3 times in the same car.
I think you're right Max, all the teams try to copy the current dominate car, it's RB's turn at the moment, luckily lack of testing is making it a slower task
Its not so much a lack of testing Herr Flick........the main obstacle is fully understanding the concept Perez crashed in Monaco last year as well and the floor of the RB18 was exposed several times, yet I believe none of the other teams managed to copy the floor. Copying a concept which you do not (fully)understand, often results in setbacks The floor needs to be in proper balance with the front wing and the back of the car. For example, Aero needs to be properly directed from the front, towards floortunnels.
@ no mickey, Yes I totally agree with you, my comment about the lack of testing was more directed towards teams not being in a position to test new parts prior to races rather than on a race weekend making it difficult to close the gap not specifically copying the dominate car because as you say it's the total concept not just copy this, that or the other, enjoy the race matey ?
