Max Verstappen is refusing to set goals for the opening race of the season. Perhaps he's using caution after a rusty start 12 months ago. He goes on to confirm he won't be setting goals for the rest of the season until he's seen the performance in Australia.
The lack of goal setting doesn't reflect on his confidence. With the race just a week away, the Dutchman is going into his fifth season with a mature attitude.
"I just try to get the best out of myself, but I'll have to wait and see what the engine and the car, so until Australia you can not really set goals," he said in a conversation with motosport.com.
"You are actually blind. In Formula 1 you are so dependent on the package you get. It does not make much sense to worry about that. That does not mean that I do not want to get the best out of myself and the team, but it is, therefore, a matter of waiting."
Much of the early season attention is directed towards Red Bull. It's one of the big questions going into 2019. How will they perform with the Honda engine? We'll find out on Saturday in qualifying!
