Max Verstappen was forced into an early retirement during today’s Hungarian Grand Prix after engine failure of the sixth lap, and the Dutchman is fuming at Renault, Red Bull’s engine supplier.
Red Bull are switching to Honda engines for 2019, after a long and often fruitful partnership with Renault, which has turned sour in recent times.
The team won four drivers’ and constructors’ titles with the team between 2010 and 2013, and have won three races this year, but engine problems have plagued their season.
Daniel Ricciardo was forced to retire in Germany last weekend with engine issues.
Verstappen said after his retirement: "For Danny and me, it is just not at all how it should be. You pay millions for what you hope is a decent engine but it keeps breaking down.
"We were also the slowest out there, it was difficult to accept and I was very upset over the radio. I'm disappointed, the team is disappointed, the fans are disappointed, they came all this way and only see you do five or six laps."
It’s fair to say Verstappen is not impressed, and will be hoping for better from Renault after the summer break.
