After crashing his
Ferrari SF90 in the morning session of day six of pre-season testing,
Sebastian Vettel claims there wasn't much he could do about it all, as the German explained there was an issue at the front left of the car.
Vettel and teammate
Charles Leclerc will have time in the SF90 every day now this testing week, with Vettel taking over duties in the morning on Wednesday. At turn three, the long right-hander after the initial chicane after start/finish, the four-time champion lost control of the car and planted it into the barrier, destroying the front end of the car.
"We don't know much more than everyone knows," the 31-year-old told present media at the Circuit de Catalunya when explaining the crash.
"Inside the car, I was going into turn three and then, by the feeling, there was an issue with the front left corner and from there, there wasn't anything I could have done to avoid the impact.
"I wasn't in control anymore and went more or less straight into the barriers.
"We are flat out trying to understand, obviously it would be a lot easier if there was a lot of run-off and the car didn't hit anything right after because now, you can imagine, obviously it's fairly damaged due to the hit.
"So we have to be careful understanding what exactly is the problem and that's what everybody is looking at here at the track and at Maranello. It's important to us."
In the first week,
Ferrari looked very impressive indeed, and it remains to be seen if the prancing horse can maintain that standard in the second week of testing, where performance usually comes more into play.
