Sebastian Vettel saw his streak of three consecutive poles come to an end in Spain as he finished third, but the German was happy with his hot lap, even though it didn't get him further than third place.
He was the quickest in both Q1 and Q2, but couldn't deliver when it really mattered in Q3.
"I was happy with my lap," he said after qualifying.
"The first lap in Q3 wasn't as good, because I locked up in the first corner.
"I was happy with my final lap, I felt good until the end.
"However, I looked up at the tower with the lap times and saw I wasn't top, so I wasn't completely happy."
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Vettel knows that Mercedes will be strong at the Circuit de Catalunya.
"We expect Mercedes to be very strong during the race, so it'll be an interesting race," he concluded.
