Mercedes have been dominant in
Formula 1 for the last seven years. So it can't come as a surprise that the majority of drivers wouldn't turn down an offer made by the team and
Sebastian Vettel is no different.
After being sidelined by
Ferrari, Vettel will have a new chance with the
Aston Martin team next year, now Racing Point. But he admits he wouldn't have turned down an offer from Mercedes.
Vettel wouldn't turn down an offer from Mercedes
When he was told in May that
Ferrari would no longer have a place for him in 2021, he wondered if he would stay in
Formula 1 at all. "
I was thinking about retiring, but I have more to give in the sport. Thankfully Aston Martin came," said Vettel in conversation with
Corriere dello Sport.
Vettel doesn't want to confirm the statements of
Max Verstappen, in which he said that 90 percent of the drivers would win in a Mercedes. However, it is also clear to him that Mercedes have the dominant car.
"Sure they have a good car and the team is incredibly strong, Lewis takes full advantage of that. Some drivers would be very successful in his car, but you also have to admit that he does it brilliantly," Vettel said.
He continued: "Personally, I wouldn't say no to Mercedes, I don't think anyone would at the moment. I would like to drive next to Lewis, but you have to ask him if he wants to. But I think so, we have a lot of respect for each other."
